Welcome to The Mountain Athlete Journal.
Hey. I’m Jackson.
I’m a lifelong endurance athlete fascinated with helping people find more meaning in their athletic pursuits. I started this newsletter to share my wisdom and insatiable passion for training and nutrition philosophy, sourdough bread baking, life as a mountain athlete, plant-based eating, environmental stewardship, bikepacking, my dog Ansel, and beyond.
The Mountain Athlete Journal serves as a sidekick to my nutrition and endurance coaching company, In The Flow Nutrition. There, I work to educate, inspire, and consult with a wide variety of athletes and fill a gap in the plant-based endurance coaching space. I’ve helped athletes from all over the world across all types of endurance sports do all sorts of amazing things by helping them dial in nutrition and training.
I hold an undergraduate degree in physiology, a master’s degree in applied nutrition, and a post-graduate specialization in sport and exercise nutrition.
But like many creatives, I’ve become exhausted and discouraged by the social media slot machine, dependent on the omnipresent algorithm fueled by fragmenting our attention and lacking depth.
I wanted to find a place to share my photography and writing that allowed for better creative expression, unpacking ideas, stories, and nuance in the complex and interesting topics I care about.
So if you’re a little burnt out on social media and would rather sit with a cup of coffee and read about meaningful endurance movement, how to optimally eat a plant-based diet as an athlete, life in the mountains of Idaho, and how they all intersect, welcome. I think you’re gonna dig it.
